Sensory Stitching

Tools: Arduino, Processing

My project, “Sensory Stitching”, explores textile as a sensory medium for visualization. I created pressure sensors using conductive fabric and embroidered them on a white cloth. The sensors can detect the location and intensity of touches on the fabric, which are then used to control the animation of the projected patterns. The outcome is an interactive fabric that becomes an interface for exploring and modifying the textile’s design. By combining the embroidery craft with physical computing, the project explored an alternative way of printing/stitching onto fabric.

“Sensory Stitching” was conducted and exhibited as part of the six-week Physical Computing course at Aalto University. A reflective writing on the course can be accessed here↗︎
